I sadly eyed my my green hat and realized 'I shoulda got that' Ok, back to the safety of my booth, where pinching hands stay away

You are NOT an expert At least not an expert in everything. Neither am I Knowing when to call in someone that knows how to do the things you don’t is SOOO important to help save time, money and effort…as well as to take leaps and bounds forward Despite taking all my critical gear (Apollo Solo, Sennheiser MKH416, etc) to temporarily live in Austria last year, I was concerned w/ the sound from the temporary ’studio’s location: A kitchen👨‍🍳 My good friend @romanvo amazing producing talent and VO himself, spent hours teaching me tools/tricks to get sound as close as possible to my fancy dancy home studio It sounded great 👍 HOWEVER… …I’m a bit of a perfectionist and wasn’t fully satisfied. I kept trying to optimize even further Roman shared something only experience knows: when effort is hitting diminishing returns “If everyone could get their perfect studio sound from their travel rig, no one would bother making a perfect studio” His ‘sound’ advice bore amazing fruit: 📈 My booking % went UP during my travel And, for most of my recording there, I spent less time obsessing to make ‘very good’ sound ‘perfect’ and was able to cover more ground. Allowing me do the things I AM an expert in :) Like being eye candy 👀 🍬…oh and voice acting and VO marketing

I've always been kind of an idiot That's the phrase I frequently use as part of the answer when asked 'Why did you choose voice acting?' The (often) unsaid question behind the question is 'How do I pursue the thing I REALLY want to do?' The answer for each person is different. Outside of time, money, persistence, mental space and talent level - the ONE consistent starting point is this... Being unafraid to look stupid I know I did (and do) a lot as one makes mistakes or is just plain not good (yet) at learning and trying something new So, If you're willing to looking foolish - CONGRATS! You've taken your first step We all can't wait to see what happens next

For the next two months, I'm still voicing those attention-getting voiceovers you love, but the studio will be temporarily relocated to Innsbruck, Austria 🇦🇹 Yes, it's true! Through late November, although everyone around me will be speaking in German...and I am a dual US / Austrian citizen...the voices coming out of my mouth into my Sennheiser MK416 will still be in English. Sorry @duolingo I'm not quite there - though you have gotten me pretty far. SO, if someone wants me to talk about owls going to parties where someone is playing a violin in German, then my 275 day Duolingo streak has done well! Otherwise, English it is. I'm prepping the house sitter and flying out tonight to join my wife @wendyzajack as she teaches on a Fullbright grant Hurra!

What to do when a sign or vision LITERALLY lands on your desk? Questioning if I know what literally means is was not one of your options...and yes I do. Sitting next to my keyboard was a 3-year-old vision board paper that somehow had flown from across the room from it's thumbtacked 📌 position on the wall. SO, I took that as a ⭐ SIGN to update my SIGN ⭐(aka professional vision board) and put it out in the world to see who of you out there may see a way to help (and on my wall so I stay focused) Much like a written out bucket list can, this vision board helps envision/get to where you want to go. Case in point: I realized I've achieved about 20% of my old vision board 🏁 so I updated it to now include Specific voiceover targets. Voice in... - Rock Paper Scissors (that show is SO. DAMN.FUNNY.) - Film festival film - For my fav book - Haroun and the Sea of Stories - if it's ever animated - A Muppet - Super Bowl Commercial - For the Steelers somehow VO related targets - Expand my VO marketing coaching biz further - Get back to speaking at conferences (like I did in the 'corporate past life' days) - More comedic villans, bad guys, sci-fi, audio dramas, political spots, kids audiobooks - Voice in an adult animation (like BoJack Horseman/Bobs Burgers) - Learn how to incorporate music into my spots - Create a comedy with friends Could be voice related but doesn't have to be... - Bring my grandparents' story to life in some creative endeavor - Do a project with my familty - Do some kind of project with Meow Wolf - Create some type of multi-format experience - Help kids with resilience or empathy on a larger scale And now....time to make that vision a reality.
